My inspiration came from my grandson who excitedly told me one day, "Grammy, I saw a fish in a tree!" I responded, "A fish in a tree? How can that be?" Hearing the rhyme, my husband said, "That sounds like a story." When I found out the fish was a balloon, I realized this could be a fun story with a teachable lesson.

About the Author

Deborah C. Washington is a picture book author and passionate advocate for environmental stewardship. Inspired by her lifelong love of writing, which began when she won an essay contest in third grade, Deborah has crafted stories that educate and inspire young readers to care for the planet. Her book, A Fish in a Tree, creatively addresses the dangers of littering and the importance of recycling, encouraging children to think critically about how their actions impact the environment.

A retired Postmaster with a career spanning 34 years, Deborah now dedicates her time to writing and raising awareness about preserving our natural world. She incorporates her deep concern for wildlife and the dangers of balloon releases into her storytelling, sparking meaningful conversations about protecting the earth. Deborah enjoys spending time with her grandchildren and actively participates in keeping the planet safe and clean.

Deborah has been married for 50 years to George Washington and it has been an adventure being Mrs. George Washington. She has 2 children and 7 grandchildren.
